ACADEMIC POLICIES (1)

Scholastic Regulations and Graduation Requirement Attendance Policy

  1. Classroom attendance is not left to the discretion of the students. Attendance is recorded from the first date of each quarter.
  2. A student cannot earn credit in a class if his and her absence exceeds 20%
  3. Students finding it necessary to withdraw from school must file intent to withdraw at the office. Those who fail to follow proper procedures in withdrawing will receive F in the courses the students dropped.
  4. Students coming to class late (two minutes or more) will receive TARDY in the record. Three tardies are regarded as one absence.

Class Registration

Continuing students are required to register for courses for the following quarter by the scheduled deadline. A late registration fee is charged for students who register after the registration period.

The registration process is as follows:

  1. Completion of the registration form
  2. Approval of course selection by the Academic Dean
  3. Confirmation of registration

Registration is approved when all tuition and fees have been paid and there are no outstanding debts to the University. A student is not counted as present in class until registration has been approved.

Students who have not enrolled for at least four quarters or one calendar year or four quarters should refer to the procedures under Readmission to the University. Students who are readmitted are subject to all of the requirements of the catalog in which they reenrolled.

A student is considered “full-time” when registered for a minimum of 12 academic units. All students are required to enroll for a minimum of 6 academic units per quarter. Students who wish to enroll for fewer than 6 academic units per quarter must receive written permission from the Academic Dean for each quarter in which 6 or fewer academic units are being registered.

Adding/Dropping Courses

There is an add/drop period of two weeks (14 days) from the starting date of each quarter.
Students may add and/or drop courses with the approval of the Dean or the faculty. All add/drop requests must be filed in writing to the registration office for processing.

Student Evaluations of Faculty

Each student will receive a Faculty Evaluation Form for each course. At the end of each quarter students will evaluate each the following items:

  1. Knowledge of the course content.
  2. Preparation for the class.
  3. Interest in the student’s participation.
  4. Encouraging student’s participation.
  5. Time management.
  6. Acceptance of positive criticism.
  7. Appropriate choices of teaching materials.
  8. Other strengths and weakness of the faculty.

Grading and Dismissal

To remain in good academic standing, students must have successfully completed the courses in which they enrolled and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 for all course work.
Grades that represent successful completion are:

A (90 100; 4.0)
B (80 89; 3.0)
C (70 79; 2.0)

Grades that do not represent successful completion are:

I (Incomplete)
F (Fail)
AU (Audit)
W (Withdrawal)

In general the final grade for each course is based on the following criteria, subject to adjustment based on faculty discretion:

  • Written Examination and Quizzes
  • Reading and Writing Assignment
  • Class Participation and attendance

Incomplete

A Student whose work is not completed at the end of the quarter may seek a grade of ‘Incomplete’ by submitting a Request for Incomplete Grade Form to the Registrar’s Office by the end of the last day of the quarter. The form must be signed by the instructor. Each faculty member decides whether work not finished at the end of the quarter warrants an incomplete grade for the course, a decrease in grade, or a failing grade.

Incompletes are normally granted only when the student’s work in the course has not been completed because of extenuating circumstances, such as personal illness of more than a brief duration; illness in the family that has needed the student’s attention; death in the family; personal or family crisis of a traumatic nature; or increase in job responsibilities. If the Incomplete grade is granted, the course must be completed by end of the last day of the following quarter, otherwise the student will receive an F.
