ADMISSIONS INFORMATION

Nondiscrimination Admissions Standards

The University does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, gender, age or physical disability in the employment of faculty and staff, the admission of students, or the operation of its educational programs and activities. Such discrimination is prohibited by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act (pertaining to race, color, and national origin, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 (pertaining gender), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1975 (pertaining to handicap), and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975 (pertaining to age).

Application for Admission

SCUSOMA accepts new students at the beginning of each quarter.
Applicants are required to submit the following to the Office of Admissions.

  1. Completed application form
  2. $100 nonrefundable Application Fee.
  3. An official transcript of previous education from each college attended.
  4. Foreign documents should be with notarized English translation
  5. Completion of two years of college education and a minimum of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units.
  6. Personal Statement.
  7. Two letters of recommendation.
  8. English Language Competency: Non-native English speaking students who are seeking admission into the English language program must have scored at least 500 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and at least the current mean score on the Test of Spoken English (TSE).
  9. Students seeking admission into the Korean Language program must have a TOEFL score of no less than 450 and a mean score on the TSE, or the applicant must have completed a two-year (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) baccalaureate level education in an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or from an equivalent English language institution in another country. Applicants who do not satisfy this requirement are eligible for admission with English as a second language, but they are required to satisfy the proficiency requirement before beginning the clinical phase of education.
  10. Essay of why you wish to attend a school in the field of oriental Medicine & Acupuncture.

The Registrar receives and processes all applications and the Academic Dean will review the application for final approval and evaluation of any transferable credits. The student will be notified of their admission status once the application file is complete and has been reviewed by the Dean. All admission documents filed to the University become the property of the University and will not be returned to the student.

Requirements for Admission to the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture Program

Consideration for admission into the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture Program requires that all applicants have satisfactorily completed a minimum of two academic years (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) of education at the baccalaureate level that is appropriate preparation for graduate level work, or the equivalent, from a University accredited or approved by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher. Those students who have attended graduate level education from foreign the universities or colleges must submit an official transcript evaluation of their academic work and performance.
